Dear Hallmark Rehabilitation,
My mother came into Lubbock Hospitality House on December 1, 2003 after suffering a broken a hip and massive stroke in October and November. When she arrived, she had not sat up in a chair, talked or responded at all since the stroke. By Christmas, the Rehab department had worked miracles!! Kathy and Cynthia had mother sitting up in a wheelchair, saying words and responding to simple commands.
I am an only child so the support and patience of both Kathy and Cynthia extended not only to my mother, but also to me. There were days I didn’t think I could stand another negative word from Mom. Yet, they always comforted me as well as encouraged Mom to keep going. They explained to me what would be realistic expectations and how a stroke affects the patient.
Mom is now walking with a walker short distances, goes anywhere she wants to in a wheelchair independently, dresses herself and talks constantly!! I don’t feel any of this would have been possible without Kathy and Cynthia’s persistence and care! Mom enjoys going to therapy and enjoys life again for the first time since her stroke. I would and have recommended our rehab department to friends and family.
Thank you,
Sue Collier, daughter of Bettye Pierce |
